    East Kilbride Arts Centre

    Since opening in May 1994, the Arts Centre has become established as a well-known and popular venue for drama, visual arts, music, comedy and film, as well as arts courses and children's activities. A number of local groups and organisations are also based in the East Kilbride Arts Centre.

     

    Calderglen Country Park

    The Visitor Centre has an audiovisual room, history room, gallery, souvenir shop and the unique 'Hidden Worlds' wildlife experience.

    • Children's Zoo - this popular area has a varied collection of animals including goats, guinea pigs, snakes and owls. Don't miss the monthly 'Animal Magic' sessions!
    • Nature Trails - There are over eight miles of nature trails at Calderglen, where nature lover and rambler alike can enjoy a walk through the woods or along the banks of the River Calder. Ornamental Garden - If you're keen on gardening then this is a must. The park's horticultural staff are on hand and will be happy to tell you how to get the most from your own garden.
    • Calderglen Conservatory - Take a break from the weather and visit the Conservatory with its varied collection of plants and animals from around the world. Gardening and Zoo staff will be on hand and happy to answer your plant and pet queries.
    • Play Area - Younger children will love the scramble nets, chutes and climbing frames while for older children the more demanding adventure play area will provide hours of fun. The equipment also caters for children with special needs.

     

    David Livingston Memorial ( Blantyre)

    Nearby Blantyre is the birthplace of David Livingston, probably Scotland's best-known explorer and Christian Missionary.

    At the David Livingston memorial you can learn about Livingstone's life, from his childhood in the Blantyre Mills to his explorations in the heart of Africa, all dramatically illustrated in the historic tenement where he was born.

    The facilities include an art gallery, social history exhibition, children's animated display, themed gift shop and tearoom, Jungle Garden, African playground and riverside walks.

     

    Hunter House Museum

    Hunter House celebrates the lives of the 18th century pioneering medical brothers John and William Hunter. Located in the brothers' birthplace, their story is told using a variety of interactive media.

     

    Museum of Scottish Country Life

    The National Trust for Scotland and National Museums of Scotland have developed the new Museum of Scottish Country Life at Kittochside, between the town of East Kilbride and the village of Carmunnock in Lanarkshire.

     

    Scottish Football Museum, Hampden Park, Glasgow

    Opened in May 2001, the Scottish Football Museum is housed within the oldest national football stadium in the world, Hampden Park. The museum, in addition to its' extensive and unparalleled collection of artefacts, boasts a cafe, shop and extensive car-parking facilities. The museum is constantly expanding and plans are afoot to expand the exhibition space and build a library and lecture theatre.

    You can also add a Stadium Tour to your visit. See the Stadium as the players do on Match day - visit the underground roadway, team changing rooms, and players warm up area. Walk down the tunnel and hear the famous Hampden Roar, follow in the footsteps of legends by climbing the stairs to the Cup Presentation Area.

    Experience the magical history of Hampden and Scotland's national game. See over 2,500 exhibits in 14 galleries and walk amongst Scotland's most famous football legends in the Scottish Football Hall of Fame! It's a day out that you will always remember, spent at the spiritual home of football - Hampden Park.
